Youth Focused Education, Training and Employment Programs
Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board
Bonus Worker Program
Can your company provide a safe, supervised worksite for a young, new
Bonus Worker?  Do you have temporary work that is suitable for an
entry-level Bonus Worker?
As a customer of the Workforce
Oklahoma system with job
opportunities in the Central Oklahoma
area, your company may be eligible to
participate in the Bonus Worker
Program of the Central Oklahoma
Workforce Investment Board.
Program Features
Bonus Workers are 16 to 24 years
old, with limited work experience.

You get the chance to meet and
interview your Bonus Worker before
the worksite assignment is made.

COWIB pays all wages and benefits.

Each Bonus Worker participates in a
pre-employment skills workshop --
providing an introduction to teamwork,
work ethics, and employer
expectations.

Your company may be eligible to
participate if you have job
opportunities available in Canadian
County, Logan County, or Oklahoma
County.
Bonus Workers learn valuable Work
Readiness skills while your company
benefits from the talent and energy of
a productive worker.

What is a Bonus Worker?
Young people from a 4-county area are
signing up to participate in the Bonus
Worker program of the Central Oklahoma
Workforce Investment Board.  To qualify
for the program, the young worker must
be age 16 to 24, a U.S. citizen (or eligible
to work in the United States), and a
member of a low income family.  Some
participants will return to full-time school
at the end of their Work Experience
activity.  Some others will be ready for
regular paid employment.  Eligible
participants typically have a barrier to
employment -- which may be a deficiency
in basic literacy skills, the lack of a
previous work history, status as a foster
child, or another condition as described in
Section 101(13) of the federal
Workforce
Investment Act (WIA). .
Worksite Qualifications
Businesses in Canadian County, Cleveland
County, Logan County and Oklahoma County
are eligible to participate in this program.
Qualifying businesses will sign a Worksite
Agreement describing the job duties that will
be assigned to the Bonus Worker as well as
the Work Readiness skills that will be
learned.
A qualifying worksite may be a for-profit
business, a non-profit organization, or a
governmental agency.
Job duties may not involve political or
sectarian activities.  Bonus Workers may not
be used to replace workers who have been
laid off.  Bonus Workers will be paid by the
COWIB at a wage rate that is equivalent to
that received by other workers in a similar
job.
The Bonus Worker program is part of
Workforce Oklahoma's WIA Youth
Program, designed to help young people
to overcome barriers that may prevent
them from getting a job or completing
their education.  Participating workers
enjoy the benefit of guidance from a
professional Career Coach, and they may
qualify for additional training, leadership
development, educational assistance,
and mentoring.
